A Senior “Moment”

We have been very much out of touch since this pandemic has thrown the world into disarray, including the rescue. As of late, it seems JG mom can never muster up anything new to write.  BUT now we are slowly seeing more new jacks, having been busy lately helping others in need. Now we are reaching out to some of the applicants to see if we can find some matches.  Some of you have been hanging on since last year, and we are connecting with you first IF we think the JRT for you has come looking for their new […]

A New Year – Will It Get Better?

2020 behind us, I can’t think of a more miserable year in so many ways. We have few Jack Russells in need (there is a silver lining to everything) but more than 100 applicants longing for a Jack. So many of the people who applied were unable to find a good match from our rescue. We continue to be confronted with health emergencies countrywide, and on top of that, JG mom was unable to walk dogs since May 2020, major knee surgery in October and still in recovery until most likely well into the late spring. A most frustrating and […]

The TN Five

Russell Rescue Tennessee contacted Jacks Galore to help with nine Jack Russells brought to a shelter after the owner died, we of course agreed. Working together, all nine made it out of the shelter with five of the jacks headed up north. Sadly the elderly woman was also a hoarder of “things” not just her Jack Russells, so the dogs didn’t live in exactly ideal circumstances. Some skin issues, flea allergies, but nothing that cannot be fixed with good food and a clean environment. There is absolutely one thing that’s true though, they were loved. Very sweet and longing for […]

ANNUAL 2020 FALL FUNDRAISER

WE NEED TO RAISE $25,000 To receive matching gifts worth $35,000 – YES that’s right!!!! – AWESOME It’s that time again, our annual fundraiser to keep us going for yet another year.  We’re a little later than usual, but that’s because COVID 19 has upended everyone’s lives, including rescue work. It being fall, we have a super long sleeve T and a great tote (no more plastic) to thank you for your support. Since we have all been cooped up we loved adopter/illustrator Don’s rendition of where we have been all holed up – HOME with JG Charley as model […]

What’s It All About……Alfie?

As the songwriters, Bert Bacharach and Hal David wrote: “What’s it all about, Alfie? Is it just for the moment we live? What’s it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?” Four-year-old Alfie has had a real rough time of it, and the first four years of his life have been nothing but frightening. A survivor of the New Jersey puppy mill 188ers, he found his way to St. Huberts shelter when all of them were saved from deplorable and cruel conditions. They did an amazing job last year and made sure that all of these dogs found their […]

Running out of Patience

I am writing to let you know that there are a few Jack Russells looking for a forever family. So many of you have been waiting forever that I can no longer keep track except for the stack of applications that I keep going through almost every night when a new dog comes in to see if I have a match. I do ask that you continue to browse the website to see if there are any dogs that might be of interest. All of the dogs in need are currently posted on the website, but unfortunately do not seem […]

Where Are All the Needy Jacks?????

We have been asking ourselves since early spring where all the jacks are.  Jacks Galore cannot remember a time in all of our years of rescue where we’ve not had at least 8 to 12 dogs in the kennels waiting for their forever home. When the pandemic hit JG had many dogs come in but all of them were adopted quickly, mainly because we have never had so many approved applications waiting for a Jack Russell. In some ways COVID19 has been a blessing because of the wonderful new JRT humans that figured it was a great time to adopt […]

Zelda – A Jack with a Broken heart – Literally

ADOPTED!!!  A previous adopter stepped up to give her a life, a happy loving forever home, however short or long that might be.  THANK YOU for all your interest with this little angel of a jack – Zelda is a seven month old black and white rough coat female shorty weighing a wee eight and half pounds. Little Zelda came to us with the second group of dogs from a deceased breeder. She is certainly a little runt, and found to have quite a strong heart murmur while checked out by the first vet before she came to us. After […]

Fourteen Breeders

Fourteen Jack Russells in need arrived at JG on a sunny spring March day, after a two car pickup lead by JG mom with our trusted dog sitter and closest friend Terry. Thank you to our new rescue partner Maria for asking us to help her save these shy, but delightful, breeder jacks.  This pack came from the same place our original eight came from and will eventually know what it means to be loved, be part of a family, and be a real Jack once and for all.   After a very long journey north, they have settled in […]

The Puppy Mill Five

Here is their story.  A rescue was referred to us when a Jack Russell backyard breeder, which we refer to as puppy mills, passed away. The family did not know what to do with the dogs, although we understand they sold some in the meantime “as long as they get out of the house”. A rescue who knew of them locally stepped in to try to help. She’s done an amazing job finding rescues and adopters for the majority of them, but still had five that needed to be adopted by terrier people and she turned to us. We were […]
