The Meaning of Sanctuary

When Jacks Galore takes on the geriatric set we bring in the senior jacks that are no longer wanted, have outlived their usefulness, whose owners have passed before them, or life has just brought them some bad luck.  We find this part of our rescue mission to be of utmost importance. The sanctuary offers hospice for the feeble, ill of health, or those unadoptable due to age, and care for them until they cross the infamous bridge. The elderly who come into our lives take on a very special meaning for Jacks Galore as we find the reward in showing them […]

A Poem “To My Foster That Saved me”

“To My Foster That Saved Me” There I was, alone and afraid, You got a call and came right to my aid. You bundled me up with blankets and love. And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug. I learned that the world was not that scary and cold. That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold. You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend. You loved me and healed me and became my first friend. And just when I thought you’d done all you do, There came along not one new […]

The Seniors

A new edition has graced Jacks Galore’s sanctuary this cold wintry month of January, with the addition of a 17 ½ year old jack name Junior. A move to the West Coast, a family member unable to take him, and the inability to let him go, brought Junior to us to nurture for what now seems only to be a limited amount of time. After a vet visit with our Dr. Ray it was deemed that Junior has prostate cancer, and so his time is bound to be short. A recent injury to his eye, now blind, makes his other […]

Another Year Comes to an End

It’s been quite the year in rescue, and 2016 was no different with great demand for many jack rescues to take in dogs in need. These dogs come from all walks of life and the reasons they are given up are numerous; baby arrives, people retire, the dog is too old, people move, people die, dogs don’t get along with other dogs, it no longer suits a lifestyle, or a divorce, and so the list goes on. The many jacks on craigslist offer the ultimate challenge, and the excuses, as we like to call them, are difficult to bear. BUT […]

The Gift of Giving

This time of year we’ve all scrambled and plotted to find some wonderful gifts for the people we love and the dogs we cherish. With the holidays already upon us, we’re just now putting everything together to make this special day unique as we all do every year it comes around. I always like to mention what I think are some wonderful dog Christmas gifts, but these are also available year-round as a gift for those of us who love our treasured Jacks. For dog owners in cold climes I love to mention the Foggy Mountain dog coats, because they […]

Send Us Your Best Picture

Calling all Jacks Galore alumni as well as supporters; to submit their best, high quality, in focus, photograph of their JRT. A very dedicated JG supporter proposed compiling the best images in a book she will publish. Producing a “Jacks Galore” photo book will act as a fundraiser so we can continue to help all of the needy jacks that have been knocking at our door recently, and if it is successful we might just do a second. We hope to be able to offer this “for sale” by the holidays, so send those photographs to JG mom at jacksgalore@gmail.com. […]

From Cruelty to Healing to Adoption

Shelley went through a lot in her very short life, but once she arrived at Jacks Galore we knew she had been worth saving, and we were very grateful that we had been entrusted with her care by the wonderful and caring Dr. Sheldon Yessenow and staff at the Oronoque Animal Hospital in CT.  Dogs are amazing creatures, and this little Jack Russell Terrier cross showed nothing but stoicism and the desire to live life and not dwell in the past; but go forward with gusto. Healing quickly with youth on her side, she soon wormed her way into everybody’s […]

A Healing Story

Jacks Galore received an email from a supporter, who had a friend in Connecticut begging her to seek help for a dog. A little Jack Russell mix who appeared to have been terribly injured, lay in pain and limbo at a vet’s office in Connecticut, where the decision had to be made to help heal or to let go. Reaching out to us and asking us for help to please save the life of his dog, we immediately contacted Dr. Sheldon Yessenow of the Oronoque Animal Hospital.  This little girl was lucky to have been taken to this amazing vet […]

Summer Matching Fundraiser

Once again a most marvelous Connecticut couple and amazing supporters of Jacks Galore, has given us the challenge of the year. A $10,000 matching donation if we can come up with the funds by September 30. in other words they will match dollar for dollar up to $10,000.  This doubles any donation you might make so that Jacks Galore may continue their efforts on behalf of all needy jacks. This will certainly take us through the holidays and end of the year and cover the costs incurred and anticipated for the next six months. As stated in our blog of August 20 we’re […]
