Jacks Galore has an enormous amount to be grateful for, 19 rejected jacks, a beagle and a chihuahua, to call our own (yes, but they do not ALL sleep in the bed), wonderful dogs waiting to be adopted into their forever homes, a huge emotional support system in the dog community we have been working with these last 12 years, a family that knows we are crazy; but best of all readers and Facebookers like you. You all make it rewarding, fun and most of all possible. JG is ever so thankful, thus the thanks in Thanksgiving.
BUT on Thursday before you start the trek to the kitchen with your jacks behind you, beware that there are some hazards with Thanksgiving Day food, some that your dogs NEED to avoid.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston provides important information on 5 foods your dog needs to AVOID tomorrow at the turkey table. Please read and tell your family members before grandma and the kids sneak the jack a treat under the table “’cuz it’s the holiday season”.
Make everyone aware of the dog’s state of mind with the commotion of family and friends in the house, and be mindful of the small children with your dogs. If you have just brought a new adopted family member into the home, be extra sensitive that it will all be so overwhelming for them, do not assume they’ll be wanting all that love and attention and make sure you give them a space to go relax and be quiet if they want to. Even a dog who loves people may find the zipping around not all that exhilarating, so please pay extra attention to your dog.
Thank you to all of you who have adopted a JRT, to all of you who believe in and support rescue, but most important please be thankful for what you have.
We are thankful for your presence in our lives. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, from all of us at Jacks Galore.
