Winter Fun in Rescue

Winters are quite hard on rescue, not only do you have to deal with all the shoveling, keeping paths cleared for walking, no salting in dog areas, ice, and high heating bills.  “Newcomers” need to learn the dog door quicker than in the summer; can’t have that plastic flap open for too long with arctic temperatures outside!!  The thing we worry about most is keeping the dogs entertained; busy and still physically active.  It takes a toll on their paws, their diet and their sanity; much like humans, they too can get depressed, bored and oh so very chunky. When they […]

Cooper’s Story

A posting on a FB page, a plea for help to save a little jack from a NJ shelter where he was languishing, unadoptable. He was fierce, cage aggressive, resource guarder, picky with other dogs, too much energy: every trait a jack russell exhibits in the shelter system, behind bars, Cooper showed it.  But he WAS adorable, so Jacks Galore decided we’d give him a chance; after all, they don’t come much cuter. So with a deadline looming we called out to our volunteers, supporters and fosters and within a few days Cooper was being picked up by our dear jack […]

Huggable Huckleberry

ADOPTED!!!  Staying in MS Huckles now claims a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix as his pal in play and adores the love and attention he gets from his new family, with all the snuggling too.  A happy pup, active and loved, for his whole life ahead. An 8 month old smooth coated,  brown and white, 16 pound long legged male jack, Huckle is energy exemplified.  His enthusiasm for life has proven too much for people so he’s with Jacks Galore looking for that home to give him a LOT of activity, attention and oh, did we say snuggling? Huckleberry came from a […]

Reflections on the Year Past

It was a very busy but happy year: despite setbacks we all encounter in a day, 108 dogs passed through the Jacks Galore doors in 2014.  Those dogs that came to us for help that were not jacks were taken care of and placed in their forever homes through the Berkshire Humane Society, our marvelous local private shelter for which we also volunteer and which we love deeply.  The 97 needy jacks who found their way to us landed with marvelous families throughout the United States; some flew in cabin to their new homes, some went in our JG dogmobile. […]

Vinnie the Victor

HEADED HOME to his foster mom, Vinnie is going back to his roots, to be loved and adored as he was when a pup.  All the kids are now settled, Jacks Galore cannot ask for anything more!!! Vinnie is a 12 week old jack mix whose mom was a Parson’s jack, who our rescue partners help whelp; his dad?  Doxie, terrier, who knows; but a small size for sure. Naturally docked tail, gorgeous brindle coloring (his litter mates were tan and white and are already in their forever homes); Vinnie is smart, brave, beautifully socialized and ready for a very […]

That Time of Year

Jacks Galore is late in giving some easy gift suggestions for the holidays, but we’ll still do it as many of us are late shoppers and anyway there’s STILL time!!  This year we have several wonderful suggestions for your gift giving and hope you’ll take advantage of them and also support those people who support rescue.  One of our adopters, Betsy Miller, sells these Elizabeth Swift Designs and has created a special collection of Jack Russell Terrier-themed bracelets and necklaces to benefit the extraordinary work done by the volunteers of Russell Rescue, Inc.  All profits from the sale of these […]

Adoption Successes

Adopting can be very unpredictable: finding homes for jacks coming into Jacks Galore is a give and take depending on the dog.  JG always has some great applications waiting for new family jacks and each time it’s a matter of timing as dogs steadily come in and go out.  Two amazing jacks just came and went quickly and that makes us so grateful, but it also shows that people waiting might not get first dibs on a dog they’re interested in.  This is why we ask people to put in apps even if they’re not ready or don’t see a […]

Giddy GiGi

ADOPTED!!!  off to VA hunt country she ventures, to join her doxie pal for fun and games in their fenced in yard; to fill the shows of a much beloved departed jack.  A family who understands the breed, and will  enjoy her youthful antics and give her what she needs to excel in the world of “jackness”.  Enjoy your long happy busy life Gigi, you so deserve to live it like a jack. Sweet, smart, young, exuberant, affectionate: an adorably small 12 pound 18 month old tricolor smooth coat gal jack, GiGi is the life of the party with her […]

Confused Colin

In permanent foster forever more, a jack who has a hard time handling what life throws at him, a dog who needs peace and quiet with and smart jack people who can offer him what he needs.  We will allow Colin to be calm, relaxed and not ask much of him so he can be comfortable in his surroundings.  A better choice for this jack. Colin is a confused jack who’s not sure why he’s lost his home.  A 4 year old tricolor smooth coat male of about 18 pounds, Colin came to us at Jacks Galore when he was […]
